It started out a night, like any other night, I went out with a group of friends. Matthew had already pre-planned the meeting that turned out to be a life changing event. As the introductions passed around the room, I noticed the prettiest eyes looking back at me that almost left me speechless and as I stepped over I noticed a smile that seemed to brighten up the entire night. Instantly I felt the warmth of what I’ve come to know as Kara, and the more we spoke, the more I knew that I not only wanted, but I needed Kara to be a part of my life. Kara’s personality simply drew me in and captivated me and it was obvious from our first conversation that her inner beauty far exceeded her stunning outer appearance. First impressions, she seemed so pure, innocent, genuine, kind, considerate, warm, caring and beautiful, all in one package. I knew she was special and there was no way that I could let her slip through my fingers. It seemed too good to be true but that night I found the perfect woman, my true love, my other half, my soul-mate and it all began with a smile that I carry with me always and will never forget.

It all started on one of my many trips home to Jamaica from college. I had no idea that it was a trip that would change my life. My friend Mathew called me up to invite me out and said he had a friend he wanted me to meet. I told him I wasn’t interested in meeting anyone but I definitely wanted to go out and party. We went to Village Café that night, it was then that the the perfect stranger walked into the room and my life. It was Shaun Anderson, the guy that I had a crush on since I was 16 years old. As he started walking towards me I realized that this was Mathew’s friend. When Mathew introduced us, I said Hi !, smiled and quickly turned away. I spent the rest of the night ignoring him and catching up with my friend Gaye. The next day Matthew and Shaun came to visit me at home, Shaun invited me out on what he called our “second date”.  We went out to a social gathering  and it led to our real “second date” where he introduced me to his mom and the rest of his family. Seeing him around the two aspects of life that he enjoys, his family and music, it was then that I knew I had fallen in love with my prince charming. He is everything I wished for in a life partner. We have been through so many obstacles and we have conquered them all. True love can withstand the test of time and distance. 143 Shaun Bradley Anderson.

On August 4th 2006, Shaun’s 28th birthday, we had made arrangements with friends and family to go to Negril for independence weekend as we always do each year. On the long four hour trip shaun seemed very nervous and kept stressing that he wanted to get to Negril early. I was in no rush and encouraged our travelling party to stop for a while to grab abite to eat. Shaun became very uneasy and said he wasn’t hungry and that we should get to Negril. As we pulled up to the hotel and got settled in, he revealed to me that he had planned to go to dinner and I told him that I was tired and that we could go tomorrow. Fifteen minutes before his birthday was over. Shaun turned to me and said "I know its my birthday but can I give you a present?". I said “sure.". He pulled out a gold box that contained a ring box… but I figured he was just upgrading the friendship ring that he had given to me when we first started dating. When I opened the box there it was, an "princess cut" engagement ring. As I looked up in shock, Shaun said “Kara will you spend the rest of your life with me?” I began crying and screaming all at the same time. Some how I caught my breath to say “Yes!!!” Then I said “Wait... how am I going to tell my parents?” to which he responded “Don’t worry about it.” Little did I know that Shaun had asked my mother and father, the night before, for my hand in marriage.
